The first part of the lecture examines the concepts of a national innovation ecosystem, its characteristics, scope, structure and main actors. Emphasis is given to the dynamization of the role of the state by presenting the thesis of Prof. Mariana Mazzucato. The second part is an overview of the European funding programs for science, technology and innovation. Included are the main instruments administered directly by the EU, as well as upcoming national programs. In parallel, an analysis of the importance of the role of institutions in building a functioning innovation eco-environment and the interrelationship with the activity of the main agents is presented.
